About
Systems Microbiology
I am interested in pathogenic bacteria that cause zoonoses, particularly spirochetes. My primary focus is on Leptospira and the relationship between its metabolic systems and pathogenicity (Ozuru R, et al. PLoS One. 2017). Through systems biology approaches, I integrate experimental biology with computational science to uncover and elucidate novel biological phenomena.
AI-assisted Diagnostic Systems for Infectious Diseases
I am also engaged in the development of AI-assisted diagnostic systems. The microscopic agglutination test (MAT), a standard method for diagnosing leptospirosis, has traditionally relied on subjective evaluation by examiners. We are working to automate and objectify this process using artificial intelligence (Nakano R, et al. J Microbiol Methods. 2024, Oyamada Y, et al. PLoS One. 2021).
